MMF Annual Orchestra Concerts for Schools

Each fall as part of MMF's annual Chamber Orchestra Tour, we present two concerts at Manchester's First Congregational Church free of charge to local school children. The 45-minute concerts are a fun filled musical journey where children learn about orchestral instruments, classical music and composers. The concerts, conducted by Ariel Rudiakov, attract between 500 and 600 children from as many as twelve area schools each year. Children participate in a lively discussion of each piece and a few lucky students are given an opportunity to conduct the orchestra. We welcome home-schooled children to attend our concerts.

Our 2011 School Concerts will be held on Thursday, September 22nd. The program will include excerpts from Christopher Theofanidis' "Visions & Miracles" for string orchestra, Andre Caplet's "Conte Fantastique" for harp and string orchestra, and Antonin Dvorak's "Serenade for Strings' in E Major.

We are excited to have as our guest artist, harpist, Bridget Kibbey. As hailed by the New York Times, Bridget "...made it seem as though her instrument has been waiting all its life to explode with the gorgeous colors and energetic figures she gets from it."
