Featuring classically-trained pianist Aaron Diehl, one of the most sought-after jazz virtuosi of his generation. The Aaron Diehl Trio will perform Mirror, a program reflecting two worlds of music across time, melding the improvisational spirit of jazz with the compositional technique of Bach.
Debuted during the 2020 – 2021 season, Mirror explores the connections between counterpoint and bebop. This program combines J.S. Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier (Book 1, Preludes 1 – 6) with original compositions for jazz trio in corresponding keys. Aaron’s compositions will not directly reference Bach, but rather use the similarities in bebop counterpoint to form a unique compliment to the Well-Tempered Clavier.
