YouTube Premiere

To clarify, YouTube Premiere is NOT a service that requires any special registration or signup from the viewer; the designation “Premiere” simply means that the video will broadcast at a designated time.

Think of a radio or TV show that airs at specific times on specific dates; one must tune in at that time in order to view the broadcast. Our YouTube broadcasts function much the same way; we designate the date and time, and the YouTube Premiere service handles the scheduling and subsequent broadcast.

Following their premieres, MMF will leave the Get to Know the Music, Performance Chats, Spotlight Interviews, and MMF Revisited videos on YouTube for perusal at any time. However, our Thursday night Marquee Concerts will air at 7:30 PM on the designated date and then be removed from public view on the YouTube channel. This means that one cannot go after the fact to view these broadcasts; one must tune in live.

YouTube Premiere Countdown

Don’t be confused if, at the precise appointed date and time, the YouTube broadcast displays a countdown window before actually airing our video. This is a function of the YouTube Premiere service, and not within the control of MMF. Simply wait it out, and our broadcast will begin as soon as the countdown has completed.

IMPORTANT: You don’t need to hit “play” or anything; just click the link provided by the Festival via our website or emails, and then just wait for the broadcast to begin. Because this is functioning like a live radio or TV broadcast, the viewer does not have control over the play function during the initial video premiere.

When you navigate to the link before the premiere broadcast, don’t be confused by the fact that nothing seems to be happening. Think of it, again, like a TV broadcast from 70 years ago. In those days, static would often fill the screen until the precise time of the scheduled program. Just await the broadcast, and it will happen on its own.

Subscribe

There are benefits available to our YouTube channel if we achieve more than 1,000 subscribers, so our goal is to accumulate huge numbers through the course of the 2020 digital festival! The SUBSCRIBE button is in red just below the YouTube video window on the right. See the image below:

Click the SUBSCRIBE button if you would like to subscribe to our YouTube channel.  You will be prompted to sign in to a YouTube account.

*If you already have a Gmail account you may sign in to YouTube using your Gmail login information*

Special Note: if you don’t already have a Gmail account of your own, you will not be able to subscribe to our channel.  YouTube and Google are tied at the hip, therefore signing up for a YouTube account requires you to sign up through Google.

Subscribing is OPTIONAL – you do not need to subscribe in order to view our videos.  If you would like to subscribe to our YouTube channel, we recommend that you do so well BEFORE the broadcast.  If you attempt to subscribe while the broadcast is ongoing, and you don’t already have a YouTube account, you will be prompted to create one, which will take you OFF the YouTube broadcast.

In this context, subscribe does not mean the viewer needs to pay for anything. In modern “lingo,” subscribe implies joining a group, not paying for a service. By subscribing, you simply become part of the group that pays attention to MMF’s YouTube channel, and whenever new videos are added to the playlist, you are notified.

Being a subscriber also means that you can hit the little “alarm bell” icon and set reminders for yourself to alert you when broadcasts are about to begin.

See image below – the little “alarm bell” icon is toward the bottom of the screen.  When you first subscribe, the words will read “Set reminder:” just click your mouse once on that icon, and it will change to “Reminder on.”

Viewing in High Definition (1080p HD)

Nearly all of our broadcasts will be uploaded to YouTube in high definition. However, YouTube’s default setting is to play the videos in a lower definition. Our videos look and sound MUCH SHARPER and more beautiful in high definition, so you might as well take advantage of this by changing your settings.   Note: You will have to change these settings on all of your devices.

Doing so is simple:

1. Click on the little gear icon in the lower right portion of your YouTube video to reach settings (the 4th icon from the right).

2. This will bring up a little sub-menu. Click “Quality,” which is usually set as a default to 480p.

3. Click 1080p HD (the HD is in red) at the top of the list.

4. That’s it – you are done. You can verify that you are indeed viewing the video in 1080p HD (high definition) by noting that the little gear icon at the lower right hand portion of the screen (4th icon from the right) now has HD in red overlaid upon the gear.

Connecting your Smart phone or Tablet to your TV

In the Intro to the Digital Concert Hall video, Adam Neiman demonstrates how to pair your smart phone or tablet with your TV. The methods demonstrated in this video will work with virtually any combination of devices so long as:

(1) you have the YouTube app on your smart TV -OR- you have the YouTube app on a streaming device (such as an Amazon Fire TV Stick, Apple TV, or Roku) and

(2) you sign up for a YouTube account in order to pair your devices to each other using that same account.

Some of you may use Apple devices exclusively, using not only an Apple device (MacBook, iPad, or iPhone) but an Apple TV, as well.

Apple makes life very simple for those who exclusively use their devices. If this is the case, it is very simple for you to view the broadcasts on your big screen TV.

Here are detailed instructions, from Apples’ website:

If you have any questions regarding the options discussed in this guide, please feel free to reach out to the Festival office.

We are available Mon-Thur, 9am-5pm.
